Re: Yang Taiji strike hands, strike before you push
搭手 Dāshǒu goes back to the 1200s but the other terms are hard to date. There is mention that Roushou is originally a 'Feeding Crane Boxing practice' which was popular in Beijing; Panshou is a xingyi practice because it develops drilling, twisting, wringing etc. ; Moshou is a Bagua practice because ...

Re: Yang Taiji strike hands, strike before you push
more from Glenn: 搭手 Dāshǒu (I think was translated as Bridging Hands) is the older term for practice/ training to fight and kind of falling under that and including it is: 揉手 Róushǒu (Rubbing Hands); 打手 Dǎshǒu (Hitting/ Striking Hands); 盤手 Pánshǒu (Coiling Hands); 磨手 Moshǒu (Grinding Hands); and 揭手...

Re: Yang Taiji strike hands, strike before you push
Bob, I did not really see the similarities in what Wu was showing in the video and what I demonstrated. Were the Wu folks doing it at co-operative flow two-person drills? It looked like application training. The drills I showed were more co-operative flow attack/counter attack drills. As for transla...

Re: Yang Taiji strike hands, strike before you push
Thank you Louis for the translation. Do you have the song of Strike hands translated. I'd be interested to read. I found this online as "song of push hands" Be conscientious in Peng, Lu, Chi, and An. Upper and lower coordinate, and the opponent finds it difficult to penetrate. Let the oppo...

Yang Taiji strike hands, strike before you push
Greetings Yang Taijiquan friends, It's been a while since I visited here. I was busy with a house I bought and transitioning out of the MMA scene. I circled back into Yang Taijiquan by training with coach Chris Pei at USWA (United States Wushu Academy) here in DC metro area. If you know him, he spen...

Temple of the Yang's
I have been re-vamping my ol' website and am dedicating a page as a Temple to the Yang's and their students. the page is still under construction and going through changes. my question is- who else needs to be included here as the Yang's had so many disciples? http://www.polariswushu.net/yangtemple....

Re-education of Long Form
I have been collaborating with Christopher Pei lately with san shou and Yang Taijiquan. Coach Pei was one of the early Yang Long form pioneers to host Yang Zhen Ji, Yang Zhen Dou, Yang Jun and he as well collaborated with Fu Zhong Wen and many other Yang Taijiquan teachers. It has opened my eyes to ...

Re: Yang Family Warm-ups and Two person exercises
Anyone have the Chinese character or actual Chinese pronunciation for silk reeling vs. silk pulling. I know that silk reeling is something like "Chan Su Ching" what is the Chinese for Silk pulling? My Chinese friend could not think of the difference when I spoke about Yang Taiji's silk pul...

The essence and Application of TJQ- YCF trans. Louis Swaim
I just ran across this when buying a book for a friend. I went ahead and ordered this. Looking forward to reading the translation. Are all of Yang Chen Fu's other books being translated and published? He did a total of 3 books correct?

Re: Yang Family Warm-ups and Two person exercises
Audi, Thanks for the feedback. I agree that the order really doesn't matter as well. Our class always went through them from the head down to toe, but I dont see anything wrong with starting from the ground up. :) I personally thought the order with the infusion on the two person exercises within th...

Yang Family Warm-ups and Two person exercises
Thought this was well produced and glad to see some of these warm-ups and two person drills out there. http://youtu.be/FkpFpQs_gBs Very similar to the stuff I learned from YCF’s line from Shanghai (FZW) and Hangzhou (Jiang Yu kun) but not in the same order. I like how he added some leg pushing too :...

Re: Yang Chen Fu on "Kan and Li" Taoist meditation
thanks for the feedback Louis, I'll have to ask around. I don't know to much about it but it sounded very interesting that YCF "may have" mentioned Taoist meditation back in the 1930's as part of the Yang Family Taijiquan.

Re: Yang Chen Fu on "Kan and Li" Taoist meditation
Greetings Matt, What's your source for this information? Could you elaborate? I can't identify the terms you mention, "kan and li." --Louis A rough translation my friend was working on. I guess he was saying that Yang Chen Fu mentioned some kind of Taoist meditation in his book "Comp...

Yang Chen Fu on "Kan and Li" Taoist meditation
In Yang, Chen Fu's 1934 book "Complete Principles and Applications of Tai -chi Chuan" he talks openly about Taoist meditation, Kan and Li. "Fire and Water" two very important "Yin and Yang" aspects in the body related to the elements, the heart and kidneys, and the impo...
