Hi Michael, Interesting, I've not heard before about back muscles problem in that area during the form performance. I believed that the cause of most problems in the mid/lower back concerns to the mid/lower vertebras. Anyway IMHO when dai mai (belt channel) opens even slightly a relief comes. Take c...

Hi Jamie, Thank you for the clip. I am very impressed! He does all those pushes so easily! You mentioned shot power; I've been seeking it for a quite long time but unfortunately haven't reached it yet. I still have problems with pushing big motionless guys standing and enjoying their natural rootedn...

Hi Andreas, I apologize for the misleading information. I've reviewed Gu Liuxin's book about Pao Chui (cannon fist). Actually he says that " Shen Jiazhen had instructions from Yang Chengfu in his own home about fajin as separate movements and that he didn't understand that instructions well bef...

Hi Jamie, Thank you for sharing your experience. I believe you are absolutely right, that's the right way. To Kal. I continued to think about lowering of the spirit and changing of the face expression for some more time and have made the conclusion that you were right – it's not allowed to do. Thank...

Greetings Louis, Your analogy illustrates much and reflects my own thoughts on taiji. I have a friend who worked at one time as an engineer at cars service station. He was excellent in testing the cars. He could almost immediately identify the problem of the machine. When I asked him how he mastered...

The fact that "lan que wei" is a special technique of Yang style (and Yang based styles) for me is obvious. It has the core difference from "lan zha yi" of Chens. Therefore it had been named differently.

Hi DP, Thanks for your very interesting analogies! The concept of a soft focus seems to be very deep and might be seen not only as peripheral vision. As I mentioned above I agree that "suspended head" is the best state. But question here is how to reach that state when it's done only by th...

Jamie,

Thank you for your 2 cs. I've reviewed YCF photos again and must agree with you – his head is always an extension of imaginary straight line passing through his torso.

Hi Kal, Many thanks for the comment! It caused me to debate the matter in my mind again. Generally I agree with you that "suspended head" is the best state. But I think there is another side of this medal. 1) First of all I meant only a slight tilting of the head down only for a short time...

Bending of the head forward

Greetings All, My question is about bending of the head forward. While practicing, I found that a slight bending of the head forward (in the neck area) for a moment in particular movements helps throw off the tension in the neck and relax mentally. Besides it seems that the bending of the head is a ...

Louis, Thanks again for the interesting investigation. I have a question about one more variant of name's interpretation. Since "shan1" is also a verb "to fan". What do you think, is it possible that the name also means "to wave aside/ to brush aside the opponent's attack pa...

Louis,

Thank you for shearing your knowledge and analysis of the alternative names. I do enjoy to read SLT's books. I just assumed that there could be a peculiarity in Yang style.

Take care,
