(Even If I am able to turn my waist to one side, then my partner sticks and turns with my waist and then pushes me from the new angle caused by my waist being turned, and I am again pushed off balence.) it means a couple of things, the most important is that you are not following, you are leading an...

(The crude unawareness that non tai chi people have of there body actaully does them well in push hands: I can rarely find a weak spot, or lock on to their centre.) in a word no. no it does not. Occasionally I also push with non taiji people. They are quite easy to handle provided that you are reall...

This is a good site with many interesting views from what seem to be some long term taiji practicners, being right has little to do with ones experience only what one has found. I mearly share what i have found. (The Search for the Bull This stage represents man when he still doesn't know his true n...

(But sometimes when I set traps of my own and the jaws are closing some students react like cornered rats, fighting fiercely: fast, panicked, angry, lashing out. My skill isn’t high enough to always handle this gently and sometimes I react the same way, panicking and going into fight mode. I don’t l...

(the school I go to tries to teach us to be soft before becoming hard) I feel this is a misconception. There is no hard, only balance. Things that are not in balance tend to throw themselves out. the use of force or the intent of the use upsets this. The soft that most feel is only the maintenance o...

Nice post, just some thoughts on the last paragraph. Many people and schools view push hands as a type of combat training. By doing this they really only develop very rudimentary skills that one can see in any push hands comp. Intent or Yi, can be a very physical feeling if one trains to hear and us...

http://www.geocities.com/tukylam/song (If you are truly song, then when you opponent throws a punch, delivers a kick, or gives you a push, you will be able to ward off easily, instead of being knocked over. This is because all your joints are loosened, and your internal strength is always present w...

(a forceful shove and knock me backwards. I'm still not real clear on how to deal with that kind of force.) all parts can move. http://www.yangfamilytaichi.com/ubb/wink.gif its not that one can not be pushed its that there is nothing to push againts. Seek emptiness as you have started to, and really...

(If you take the idea of the body as a non-solid mass of vibrating energy or posit that it has a field of chi, then the portion where my energy overlaps with my opponent’s is the intersection of mutual understanding, and it differs for each person involved. This overlap is where I read my opponent’s...

(What do you do with someone who pushes like a slow moving tank? If they give you energy in only very small increments, there is little to “lead.”) the fact that they are pushing means that you are leading. http://www.yangfamilytaichi.com/ubb/wink.gif , At some point they will be out of their center...

(have never met anyone unable to change. I have met many people unwilling to move. These are very different.) Yes they are. I would say that you probbly have met people unable to change. When I use the word change it should mean to move in accordance with the other, not by ones self as you seem to b...

offering instruction
I post on different BBS sites as bamboo leaf; my given name is Dalton friends call me David. I practice a yang style variant based on the 24 step that I learned from a master in Beijing. I also train and practice push hands to explore and develop taiji principles and functions. My background include...

From the post on mind intent. (Never give an opponent an opportunity to guard and attack, or put yourself in the position of having to guard and attack.) the idea of transformation/change in the present (It’s clear to me that the “empty mind” of Chinese metaphysics is not a state of absence, or vacu...
