Small Frame is a mode of doing Taijiquan (form) and is not a different form. My opinion is that the form in the "small frame" is done in a more "energetic" level, with small and fast movements. Yang Shao Hou "Small frame" and Yang Cheng Fu "fast form" are thei...

The Complete Book of the Essence and Applications of Taijiqu

I am waiting for the translation by Louis Swaim of the book "The Complete Book of the Essence and Applications of Taijiquan" by Yang Cheng Fu. That book is a Yang Style Taijiquan bible. Louis Swaim is doing a great work with the translation. His previous work "Mastering Yang Style Tai...

It would be interesting to see the demonstrations of Tian Yin Jia to coment them. However, the idea that the "Large frame" was developed (only) by YCF is missleading. YCF was known for his "Large frame" but he didn't developed it. The "Large frame" was developed inside ...

I didn't said that YCF did't made any change to the TJQ, but only that he didn't made big changes. My opinion is that Yang style TJQ was at generations between Yang Lu Chan and Yang Cheng Fu at his apex, and their changes of the art were legitimate. Too many made inexcusable changes to the TJQ! Too ...

d 1) Nobody knows Chang Yiu Chun! My opinion is that Erle learned that stuf from someone but none from Yang Shao Hou's disciple. ad 2) Guang Ping Style is an early "Yang" style, made before the Yang family purifyed Taijiquan of external Chen elements. ad 3) and 7) I have my own opinion abo...

Wushuer, I talked about the various "Yang lineages" not about the other styles! Wu style is not a Yang style, but a modification of the Yang Pan Hou's (and Yang Lu Chan's) "small frame" made by Wu Jian Quan (and Wu Quan You). Also many of the above "lineages" and styles...

Maybe is not the only way, but is sure the right way. Yes, there are also others good TJQ styles, but are also many more bad TJQ styles. Many of the "secret" styles are not Yang styles but only its derivations or authors personal interpretations. I choosed the "Yang Cheng Fu" sty...

In my (re)searching I found that the only "old" and "authentic" Yang style is the style that was teached by Yang Cheng Fu (the others are mainly fakes). Some "masters" of the "Yang" style (not of Yang Cheng Fu's lineage) try to unjustifiedly discredit Yang Che...

I like discuss about various lineages of the Yang style Taijiquan. Zhan Qin Lin was one of the best Yang Style masters (surely one of the top 10 ever)! Zhan Qin Lin studied Taijiquan with Yang Jian Hou and Yang Cheng Fu, but latter he modified his Taijiquan acording of the teaching of the taoist Zou...

I agree that origin of these line drawings is doubtful. I don't know if Xiao Tianshi had a reason to include these line drawings in his work "Essence of the Daoist Canon" (Daozang Jinghua) if they were not authentic? He was a researcher of the taoist text and not martial arts. I also don't...

Is true that the year 1956 is not very ancient, but at that date the taoist researcher Xiao Tianshi (Hsiao Tien Shih), who researched the sacred taoist texts of taoist priests and taoist temples, published that line drawings with other sacred taoist texts. He was not a martial artist but only a rese...

For now I don't know exactly which is the oldest work that contains these drawings (when they appeared), but I am still searching. The oldest work (that I know) with the drawings is the book Zhang Sanfeng Secrets of Taiji Elixir Training (Zhang San Feng Taiji Lian Dan Mi Jue) by Xiao Tianshi (from h...

Look at my new page: http://www.geocities.com/oldyangtaijiquan/zsftjq.htm There are the line drawings of the Zhang Sangeng Taijiquan that can be find in the manuscript "Zhang Sanfeng Secrets of Taiji Elixir Training". I don't know exactly when this line drawing appeared firstly, some say t...

The main today TJQ styles evolved from (nearly) the same surce. The old styles of Chen, Yang and Wu were similar, but they evolved/changed in different ways and today are very different. The »main« (modifications) authors of the today most popular TJQ styles were made by Chen Fa Ke, Yang Cheng Fu an...

Audi, I agree with you. The key point in TJQ is practice. The TJQ history has only a value for academic purposes. The discussion about the Taijiquan origins without the evident proofs is only an exchange of opinions. As all, without evident proofs, I have my belief on the TJQ origins and developemen...
