Concealing Intent

How do you keep from telegraphing your intent?

There’s the saying, “I know my opponent, but he does not know me.”

So, how do you keep yourself from being known?

Louis,

That was a beautiful passage--thanks for sharing it. I look forward to savoring it over the weekend and mulling it over. I must dash to catch my bus now.

Hi Jerry, Thanks for your concern and suggestions. The Wandering Brit quoted something like "I try not to have beliefs. Ideas are so much easier to change." Well, this is my way of approaching it as well. I have subjective experiences, many of which happen to correlate with the vast number...

I think it’s time for your friendly local crackpot to say a word or two about my qi experiences. Actually, this a long and rambling post. I apologize in advance. I will first agree with Jerry that Yang Jun does not talk about qi in any esoteric way—but of course he does talk about it. It’s part and ...

It's so interesting to me that many of the tai chi threads seem to pick up on the same discussion topics at roughly the same time. On the Empty Flower board right now there's a discussion topic: "Awareness of Intent" that's paralleling parts of this one. Find it here: http://www.emptyflowe...

Anyone have a bird I can borrow? http://www.yangfamilytaichi.com/ubb/smile.gif FWIW, I too think it's possible and that there would even be gradations of skill--using the whole arm at first, then connecting whole body to the arm, and later subtle movements with the hand muscles but with the whole bo...

Hi All, Yang Jun talked about the sounds Heng, Hai, and Ha very briefly in class one night about four years ago. I will relate what I remember and my impressions. At that time I had no understanding of fa jin at all, so my impressions should be treated with much caution. To date, we have not used th...

Cheefatt, Ah, now I understand a little bit better. Thank you! I will practice listening to return an incoming push very subtly. I will also practice your suggestion from the push hands strategy forum about subtracting out the opponent's resistance, waiting for them to retreat to recover balance, th...

Interrupting Jin?

One of my practice partners recently showed me something new, but I don’t know what it’s called: when I pushed towards him, he put his hand on my elbow and, without pushing or any movement, stopped my push by breaking the flow of chi down my arm. There was no sensation of pain, just a pulsing as I c...

Help with Katrina database

For those of you who have a little extra time on your hands for typing, here's a site that's building a database to help Katrina survivors search through all the sites out there posting lost/found messages. They need volunteers to do data entry and techies too. http://192.122.183.218/wiki/index.php/...

Biomechanical Models

Hi all, As a point of interest, I just found this article by Ian Deavin in the Longfei newsletter, Vol. 6, Nos. 1 & 2. It describes some biomechanical models for applying and absorbing force. I liked the pictures and found the descriptions helpful. Part 1: http://www.longfei-taiji.co.uk/news/vol...

Thanks, do you know what it was called? A quick Google search is only turning up that Jet Li movie "The Tai Chi Master" from 2003, but I'm pretty sure that's not it.
