I'm not entirely convinced that the word "arouse" isn't applicable to tai chi. I generally like Audi's interpretations of resonance...but think that there are some phrases in English that could provide a theoretical link between "arouse"/"vibrate" and "resonate.&qu...

Congratulations to all on passing your ranking exams! This isn't the first time I've taken the exam. Last time, I popped into some weird happy place and actually really enjoyed the doing the form in front of the judges, so, not bad at all except for the usual form glitches. At my most recent exam, h...

Applications in taiji are not like the formulaic, canned moves that you find in many of the external martial arts. Good point Jerry, one of the reasons I enjoy push hands so much is for the spontenaity of it. It's fun to get myself o...

Applications vs. Push Hands?

What is the difference between applications and push hands for you? I thought I'd open a thread because there are a variety of opinions out there about what defines or constitutes applications vs. push hands. I'd like to see what people are thinking. I recommend sanding with extremely fine (600X 1000X) sandpaper by hand, then coating with gun oil, which isn't really oil, but contains a hydrophobic compound that repels water and is designed for weapons with both wood and metal components. Regards, Kal
<font size="1" face=&qu...

Bob, LOL - great poem http://www.yangfamilytaichi.com/ubb/smile.gif Glad it's working out for you. John, perhaps your classmates will feel more encouraged if they can look at the process of ranking as yet another opportunity for self-evaluation. It's hard to control what actually happens on the day ...
