Heavy breathing

When doing Tai Chi, is it normal that your breathing gets heavier and pulse rate is higher than when you are at rest? It's almost like taking a leisurely walk for 30 minutes.

YangZD form VS YangCF form

Hi, I have seen some clips of Yang Zhenduo and Yang Jun doing the Yang form. Out of curiosity I compared it to those in Yang Chengfu's Essence and Applications of Taijiquan. There are differences. For example, from "step back, ride tiger" to lotus sweep, YZD and Yang Jun do not spin around...

Thanks for the replies. It has help clear up the misconception I had earlier that not doing the form as passed down would interfere with chi development.

Modification of the forms

Hi, Would modifying the forms in any way destroy the benefits of Yang style Tai Chi ? For example, if you have previous knee injury and you are not able to bend the right knee that low while doing dan bian xia shi (like the logo above). So you only bend the right knee so that it is about 45 deg angl...

Individual natural rhythm

Hi, As beginners, we are usually advised to do our forms slowly. However, each individual have their own rhythm so some would finish the form in 25 minutes, some 40 minutes etc. If you initially finish the form in 25 minutes, should you try to force yourself to do it even slower to finish it in 35 m...

The importance of accurate forms and movements

Hi, Many would try to copy their teachers' movements and forms as accurately and as faithfully as possible. How important is it to do this ? There are so many variations in the Yang styles that I'm beginning to wonder if copying your teacher exactly to duplicate his movements and form accurately is ...

Yang long form segmentation

Hi, The Yang Cheng Fu long form is segmented into 3 segments by the Shi zi Shou (cross-hands). Are each of these segments self-contained, meaning that you can, if you wish, do only the 2nd segment daily. Perhaps only do 1st segment and 3rd segment daily. Will this screw up your Qi system and harm yo...
