Steve, I think/imagine and see that both diagonal flying and part the horse's main are variations on a theme. Yes. It is angle degree that separates them. Diagonal flying to me is not never 'straight'. Have you ever incorporated the martial content into actual form? If you did tuishou only without f...

Bob, You forearm will be pressing against (diagonal flying-right) opponent's chest and will not be sufficient so you will have to catch at an angle while your foot is already strategically in place (behind opponent's left leg) where both (forearm and leg) can assist each other in pushing opponent ov...

Bob, When I would teach tuishou, for clarity, I wouldl not make reference to qi or energy. That being said, punglijiankao...all melt into each other and are contained in each other. Press (ji) can become pung if you feel (think) that you have a clear path, and if you are punged (punk-pushed back tur...

Louis.
I do not speak Mandarin nor do I write it but I say only my experience of what I hear and I have seen. The language of taijiquan is clear for all so there are no problems with understanding.I am sorry for insinuating an untruth.

Louis. I am aware that Wu Tunan wanted to make the nation strong and he urged this through studying its beneficial effects. The superstitions elements are in my frame of reference are things like taiji causes homosexuality from some parts, others say you have to believe in qi to derive any benefit, ...

Wu Tunan was one of the first to get away from superstition in taijiquan and test many of its benefits. Sometimes the language of taiji does more to encourage superstition and other misperceptions.

This form is no different from Chengfu's form. It's the same. I also noticed that the Yang forms from that era are faster than today's 'slow' performances!

aikido-jo, Why discard one form that you know for another just to feel qi. I am sure you feel it in Li style so just apply the principles without changing styles unless you prefer the external representation of Yang style vis a vis Li style. Yuri's relaxation comment is an excellent one. I know noth...

Bob,

The 16 form is a good diversion and great for those who find the long forms hard to remember. I stay to the 3 times posture playing or 4 instead of 2!

My teacher(s) didn't say much of anything but my sense of how they did application indicates that one never occupies the opponents center. As a matter of fact, the opponent's occupation of your center allows you using taiji principles to his periphery to subdue him. As an extension, if the opponent ...

leroyc, Evolution in taijiquan is always ongoing so any feasible explanation that makes sense has a following so all taijiquan is good as stated. All MA start with a large (open, expanded) way of doing a said form but the form is usually 'empty'. As the form becomes rote, and natural rhythm/way of f...
