mls_72,

There are many variation of a 37 form taijiquan. Sometimes the founder's name is added to distinguish which form.

Right now, the only 37 form taijquan is associated with Zheng Manqing (Chen Man ching)!

Intent is usually manifested in body language or body positioning. Q. How does one keep oneself from being known? A. It has nothing to do with MA but with human relations and behavioural constructs. Daodejing has within its parameters to treat all alike, whether beggar, thief, king, so whther one in...

Now some are making a distinction between Yang shi taijiquan (Yang stye) and Yang michuan (Yang Family) so the aberrations are as endless as reasons. A good thing!

mls_72, At least 70% of the fifth generation and most of the 6th and 7th generation have elements of falsehood in them. Only the degree is the telling point. What do we mean by lineage, official lineage or even casual lineage? Loaded words, at a minimum. Is the casual person who took lessons with a ...

chris, Your asessment per your experience is accurate but my own teacher said one should not think about such things. It get you nowhere. Practice, apply what you were taught and you will gain your own definition of qi. None of my teachers reflected what you mentioned. They did say that a lot of pra...

rakyat, The essence of the form is not that different. People's physiology influence the external representation of the form and no two people will do a form the same way. There will be differences. The lifting of the arms (qishi) may perhaps be an internal thing. Instead of an explicit raising like...

Luchan's opponents were often honourable enough to not go about bragging about that kind of stuff.

Depends on the type of practitioner one is or seeks to become. Most Americans have no use for it since it is use as daoyin exercise type movement. Even the self defense mechanics of shuaijiao are far better than tuishou itself. For my training, tuishou is just an ecxcellent way of grasping the prope...

It seems that too many people train form and not gong. My own experience is that a form in itself is not better or worse. It is inert. The individual level of training, insight and experimentation is the main determing factor. Taijiquan training is only one factor of many. It is not the only variable.

Cesar, People bring various insights and this may be one of them, so I am not sure. I have surveyed all the Yang information and there is no "paocui" (cannon fist) unless it is a personal insight of the student. I am aware there are many students of Luchan who have stayed out of the limeli...

Cesar, You are right. Zhaenji does play the form a little differently from his brothers. I attended the Taste Of VIrginia some years ago and some of the players took a trip to see Zhenji (not me) and they wrote about it in Tai Chi magazine. Zhenduo et al tend to have the rounded form while Zhenji ma...

cheefat,

Thanks for the response.
It is rare for anyone to describe a process in Yang style tuishou so thanks. I know the mechanical (technical) pattern like single hands, 2 hands, four corners, etc but not the various hand skills?? pertaining to level of listing (dongjin) and so on.

We can all be fooled by polite tuishou but as some said, it involves peng lu ji an etc with application. Today we do not do any of that stuff so how can we pretend we do!! Obviously it is easy. We push and pull but nothing else and this is good because that is all many want to do. If we want greater...
