Sometimes I writhe in laughter when I read the many responses of the tai chi forums but joy is a great healthgiver! Enjoy! p.s. I laught a lot anyways to prevent from cr...

The way how I was taught Yang taijiquan is completely different from how I learnt PH. Push hands, as I was taught, is a sensitivity training activity only and it has have some benefit in showing 'emptiness' and 'fullness' within an encounter but the linchpin for me has been a 2 man form (which I des...

There is Zhao Bin, a relative (nephew) who little is heard of outside of China. His son is somewhat well known in China. Zhao Bin taught Li Zheng, who teaches "Imperial Yang style"!! There is Ding Shuide who was taught by Niu Chiuming. Ciu Yishi taught Zhang Yongtao! The Kwan Sai Hung char...

There are many students of Yang Chengfu but many do not treat taijiquan as a tool to sell or be known or lauded as public marketing. For those, it is truly an heirloom to be kept as it is. Hidden in plain sight!

Taijiquan was initially martial but one does not need to know the martial application for benefit. But again, this depends on the age of the students and use of taijiquan. Some pointers that I teach for understanding: a. Form does not build martial practice. b. One must transcend form but studying a...

ProfFilipe, Innovation in taijiquan practice is great but personally I have found it better to use weights (when I do use them) on the days I do not do taijiquan. When doing shuaijiao, the training tools often enhance taiji so no need to overdo and promote lactic acidosis with the form by adding the...

It is from Chen shi taijiquan!
I believe Ren Guangyi put together a short form based on Chen style to be taught to Jackman for the movie.

yslim,

That seems to be the context of the word despite the actual word having a literal meaning, which is not representative of its essence! Even the modern dictionary give no clue to the other aspect of understanding.

He is using the template of Yang Chengfu's style/frame on his shuaijiao background. General Li taught Yang style to Chang Dungsheng, who in turn, taught the general the 'tuishou' of shuaijiao because his Yang stye was 'lacking' a martial base! The slow or fast is not the standard. It is how you can ...

Ask to vist the school, look at their syllabus for teaching, who the teacher studied with and go from the gut regarding choice(s). Even though the word traditional is valid, it is so overused that the word itself can be misconstrued and deceive. Something like the title "Traditional 24 Form tai...

Chris,

Did your teacher, Elizabeth Wenscott, teach at the Japanese Cultural Center in Chicago for awhile?
One of my teachers, Dr Wu (former Kang Tai on Clark Street-now retired) taught at the Center when he first came to US and I recall the name but never studied with her)

Danny, Excellent work! I wish all would scrutinize stuff like you do to gain the truth about a thing! As I said in a previous post perception and reality are usually at opposite ends in these circle because even the Yang side tends to downplay Fu Zhongwen and Zhao Bin's Yang style (Yang relatives) w...
