When I was in bootcamp (Marine Corps) at the rifle range, there is part of training called 'snapping in' (if I recall correctly) where, instead of immediately locking and loading, you hold your rifle at various position just looking downrange and 'feeling' the weapon (not that way) and getting accus...

Bob, As I noted earlier, it is rare for a teacher to convey the fluidity of tuishou! The best I have seen is of the following: check out from 0.58 01.07! One of the better shoulder 'kao' examples but it needs forward impetus of the other to make it pronounced as shown in clip. http://www.youtube.com...

Bob,

The best example I have seen of 'kao" is in Wu style (Jiangbo). The leaning of some of the Wu Jianquan side appears to allow for the dynamic of kao! Martin (of Germany) just added a clip on a site that show its expression beautifully!

I like to leave the best for last concerning those who teach a specific training curriculum and use similar description of training process and synthesis. Li Zheng of Manchu Taijiquan lineage speaks of a similar mao xing step that is part of that era of training! As below: http://wulinmingshi.wordpr...

All of the methods are contained within Yang shi taijiquan. If you are studying with a 'bonafide' instructor, s/he should be knowledgeable about similar concepts. Here is one link written by Ted Knecht and his teacher, per translation: http://www.geocities.com/yongnian/catbenefits.html Certain Yang ...

Ruben,
Were you taught, or did you spend about 8-12 hours of basic sword exercise movements before you went on to actual form?
That does alot to orient you to the hands foot positioning, the figure 8 circular movements with stepping in the understanding of the how and why of application.

It is rare to find accurate hisotrical background on the evolution of taijiquan. There is so much ahistorical claims and assertions that the present genre of "historical fiction" seems to be the rage! Stanley Henning(s)! amongst the few along with Ma Mingda and 2 of his associates are abov...

GZ,
If you believe that qi is the ability to know something then you have to test it!
Don't you think? How did I find this?
Can I resort to qi to explain the knowledge.
No. There is a base on which to see and be able to point.

You seem to know the application of physics (concept) whereby your placement of the brick will definately assure that the brick is broken when hit! Try this double blind test. Your present approach is as follows: ----- ---- ----- ---- ----- ---- ------ Change placement and see what happens as below:...

Not bad! I tend to look at function and structure and from that perspective "brush knee" the hands are too far extended forward and backward. Your hand movements are too expansive without sufficient contractive power and I would assume that "repulse monkey" would have that same f...
