If one is engaging in proper and correct practice, jing will never be an issue. We all possess jing, i.e. the baby, the young, and the old but a difference would be the quality, which may be apropos a perhaps a strength scale. A baby's jing is formative and as they grow that 'jing' devlops according...

When I would explain tuishou (both hands) I would tell student to attack the others throat and they would explain what they would not before they actually did it. It would ususlly come down to (I am trying here to explain a process but not sure how to accomplish it): 1. Turning waist and deflecting ...

I tend to deconstruct the posture according to function as opposed to a rigid object that does not change according to the circumstances! Turning fist and chopping, when I execute, the fist, close to endpoint changes into yangzhang (open outstretched palm turning outwatd to deflect and possibly over...

A former teacher did the form from end to beginning as a form of training, self development and experimentation. From what he stated, I also so it as a neural-somatic integration to help with discovering form mechanics and memory enhamcement. We were probably saying the same thing using different la...

it was asked if one were bear hugged and lifted into the air, is fa jing still usable to break the hold?” I would say that at this juncture 'ting jing' (listening energy) would be more important than fajin because as you 'felt/sensed' t...

I try to stay away from the absolutist meaning of many references in Chinese because the translations appear to be too singular/uniformed when given an English equivalent. I understand fajin to be relative meaning the one who was more root (compared to the opponent) will have the power to generate f...

Simon, my tuppance worth! It is true that the gong of tuishou is more important than intellectual discourse but consider any response to be indicative of the individual's level of expertise, maturity or exposure! Rigidity leads nowhere so when you are "open" (although closed) you get the o...

Thanks Bob, Tanmeiryu I am not familiar with use of posture "Cross Hands" (end of 1st section) as actual application but the shuaijiao application per usage is qinna and possible throwing! I can also see it as a block with both hands looking at inner palm (neilaogong) and if the opponent's...

Cross hands can belong to any system so in that sense it is a general description pertaining to 'touching hands' with anyone regardless of style! Push hands may also be called touch hands (tuishou) and it can/has been also known as roushou (rolling hands) and other similar names. I am not a linguist...
