Hi yangchengfu04, I learned within the Tung School, and we also begin the long form with the hands rising facing each other, and we use both weighted and unweighted pivots. Tai Chi Chuan is not the movements, it is the principles. The long form is made of movements to which the principles have been ...

That the long form was put together that way without everything having both left- and right-hand...

Hi Audi, > My understanding is that the Yangs give downward movements of the body (the trunk?) as examples of natural places to breathe out and upward movements as natural places to breathe in. A specific example I recall is breathing out when bending forward in Needle at Sea Bottom and breathing in...

Hi Audi, The most important thing to know about breathing in both the form and applications is to breathe. Sometimes people have an urge to hold their breath when exerting themselves, and, even though this can be tolerated in a certain percentage of the population, I believe this is incorrect. When ...

Hi wtracy, A short note. On the Photo Comments thread Jerry Karin wrote, > The way Yang Chengfu executed many of the moves seems to have changed quite a bit between the two sets of photos. Wusherer, Runnning roughshod on someone can include sounding off when you are really not answering the issues. Your answer is not really an answer. At no time have I disagreed with how good internal training can be. You don't have to inaccurately knock running and weight training to elevate internal...

Hello wtracy, I don't know why, but your experience differs widely from mine. You seem to have a lot of small inaccuracies > To my knowledge, there is no one today teaching the Dong style the way Ying-Jie taught it. All his students, including his sons, have modified the style somewhat. But having m...
