Official Yang Family Sword

Hello,

can anyone provide more information about the swords that are available for sale on this site? I would like to know the weight and balance point of both the standard and the grooved. Does anyone have them and/or know this information?

thanks

Great post Simon! The bit about the decision to shoot versus the reflex of responding is the key. The attacker uses the intellectual center to decide to attack and to initiate the process. When you are in a state of neutral awarenesss and an attack is perceived the instinctive and moving centers res...

Audi, These are wonderful clarifications, thank you. I think your point about not chasing sensations and focusing on the by-products of Tai Chi is a very important and profound point. It seems that in all cases if you make any of these by-products an end in itself you are probably focusing on the wr...

Does anyone have any ideas about rubber soles being less desirable during Tai Chi? My teacher used to mention that he felt that rubber gave the sensation of blocking energy versus leather or cloth bottom shoes. I tend to agree with this as I experience a very different sensation while wearing rubber...

Hi Audi, One thought that comes to mind is to look for the places in the form where the movement implies that you have been hit or pushed and you are responding by neutralizing and returning. The most obvious one is press because from push hands we know that the shift back is neutralizing the others...

I like working in sand but it might not be best to do it all the time. I personally like to vary surfaces and I will work on a wood floor, cement outdoors, in the dirt outdoors and on uneven terrain just to challenge myself and vary the practise with new challenges and variations...

Push Hands complements the form and reveals principles and meanings of the form that you otherwise would not be exposed to. Push hands should not be equated directly to the martial aspect of Tai Chi, is is mostly the place in which you learn sensitivity, listening and what is really means to root wh...

The example of weights for training the legs is interesting.

What about when placed on the wrists as in the original post?

I don't see any direct application per se, but it is interesting to note that when you advance to sword form you are dealing with a 1-3 lb object added to your arm. It adds a significant new range of challenges, strength and skills. In this same vein, staff, sabre, etc. all are intended to work addi...
