Re: Fajin

I apologise Bob, I've been in a bad space recently but that's no excuse, I do appreciate the time you've taken to discuss the topic. Sincere apologies for my thoughtless remark.

Re: Faith in the effectiveness of Tai Chi

At the end of the day, any martial art that isn't pressure tested is going to be greatly less effective as a method of self defence. However, Tai Chi is still a very worthwhile and effective pursuit and I do feel that it adds greatly to my overall training in martial arts. Seeing is believing and I'...

Re: Faith in the effectiveness of Tai Chi

You want documentation to see the effectiveness of Tai Chi. Be my guest. :) This should speak for itself! CD, Im totally confused why you feel this video would present as evidence as such, however, I will concede that Chen style does look far more martial and effective than the Yang style that I pr...

Re: Faith in the effectiveness of Tai Chi

I actually stated in the original post that I accepted that Tai Chi is a great accompaniment and additional training tool. This fighter does indeed have a Tai Chi body Im sure but its clear that hes also adept in the hard striking styles also. My own hard style practice improved greatly from Tai Chi...

Re: Faith in the effectiveness of Tai Chi

Why are you so persistent to have someone to prove that Tai Chi works as martial arts. Why am I so persistent? Let me explain. You have just detailed about how Tai Chi changes the body and allows the body to respond using Fajin. Great. Great theory. Wheres your evidence? Now, there seems to be a gr...

Re: Faith in the effectiveness of Tai Chi

Thanks DP. But can you PROVE your approach works? Because if you refer back to my OP, that's all I'm looking for. So far, everyone Ive met says something similar to you but no one has been able to show me such an approach works in a realistic scenario.

Re: Faith in the effectiveness of Tai Chi

I honestly feel that I don't fall into any of those categories CD. I ask open and honest questions of myself and teacher constantly to ensure that my Tai Chi is neither blind or meaningless. I wouldn't be asking the questions I have on this post if I was content to practice Tai Chi in such a way.

Re: Faith in the effectiveness of Tai Chi

Hi CD, If you need real proof, perhaps, you need to take a trip to China and find a real Chinese Tai Chi master to demonstrate his Tai Chi skills to you. And here I think you have hit the nail on the head. I think my issue is that Im concerned that I dont have a real Tai Chi master. I mentioned befo...

Re: Faith in the effectiveness of Tai Chi

Thanks DPasek and Audi for your responses, I appreciate you taking the time. A few comments from me and clarifications; DPasek; [quoteI am less familiar with situations where someone may have used Taijiquan to seriously injure or kill an opponent. If that is what you are looking for, then I am not t...

Ive just logged on for the first time in a long time and see you guys were still arguing in Jan 2018.

I think that in itself answers my original question.

Faith in the effectiveness of Tai Chi

Hi all, I have been practising Tai Chi now for over three years and therefore still very new. I have a lot of past experience in hard style martial arts and western boxing and therefore the concept of Tai Chi as a form of self-defence is still a very difficult pill for me to swallow. I can accept th...

Re: Yang Taiji Practitioner loses bad to Boxer/MMA challenge

Here is a real Tai Chi body(white pants) at work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHA9waDt88A He has a sturdy body. His stance is firm and always keep himself in a vertical position. His kicks are strong. In the contrary, his opponent has very poor footing is because he fell couple times when he li...
