Re: Shoes that allow easy turning
I have always went barefooted for Tai Chi, but having read a lot of posts that flat footwear is best I sometimes wonder if I should try footwear. I turn on the floor fine at the moment and my tutor has no problem with me doing it in my barefeet. I suppose I never gave it any thought until I started ...

Re: New to Tai Chi
I could understand if it was normal socks, but the non slip kind should be fine. The people who run the hall or the group do sound a bit stuffy, although I suppose they may want to cover themselves if someone did have on the wrong footwear and got injured. It may be worth showing them the socks to l...

Re: How to Know if Students are Relaxed
Before we do the tai chi form, we do a few breathing and stretching exercises which I find very relaxing. I assume that most Tai Chi schools do this to help loosen up and warm up if need be. I find a lot more relaxed after we do this, although I suppose relaxing as a student possibly comes with expe...

Re: New to Tai Chi
Not sure if those shoes will work due to the sole. I have always done Tai Chi barefoot and have had no problems with turning or movement. If as you say your balance is better this way then why not carry on going barefoot for the class. You say you dislike going barefoot, is there a reason or do you ...

Re: New to Tai Chi
To be honest I dislike those so called Tai Chi shoes you can buy on Amazon etc as I found them very cheap and my feet slide out of them as they were fairly wide. I started doing Tai Chi in bare feet from my first class and after trying the Tai Chi shoes and trainers I much prefer going barefoot as I...

Re: Why do people attend Taiji classes?
The first class I ever attended was to keep a friend company, but in the end I continued to go and my friend stopped. I just loved the relaxing atmosphere the tutor brought to the class and how very patient he was as we were all at different stages to start with. I think a lot has to do with the tut...

Re: Christmas and "Chi Ku"...
I once had an instructor who played 'gaudete' by steeleye span, not so upbeat as Rocking around the Christmas tree but very soothing all the same.
Happy hols and look forward to getting back to classes after the break.

Sounds like fun. I once had an instructor who played 'gaudete' by steeleye span, which is not so upbeat but was actually very soothing. Happy holidays and look forward to getting back to classes after the break.
