saber scarves

Hi,i recently purchased a yang style saber on ebay which is a wonderfully unique weapon, however, this particular saber did not come with the silk scarves which traditionaly adorn broadswords of this type. This aroused my interest.Besides being astheticaly pleasing to the eye,do these colorful scarves ...

I wasn't aware that there WAS "olympic tai chi".I hope so.I've always wanted to see taiji,bagua,xing-i or any contempory form of wushu become an olympic event. In my opinion, the only present event which comes close to the aesthetics and excitment of wushu(which does include standardized tai...

hi, regarding the above inquiry,"wild horse parting its mane"(iam assuming this is the form you are referring to, since i am not familiar with the chinese spellings)is not an easy posture to project significant power from. Unlike the similar form"slant flying", the feet are space...

I remember being taught a very helpful stretching exercise by c.k. chu in new york city. Squat down with feet flat and toes at slight angles. This position will stretch the ankles, groin, back, knees and achilles tendons.Initally, mantaining balance in this position may be difficult. A remedy would be t...

hi louis, based on your reciprocation of flying birds and arrows,i must revise my own convictions on what i assumed to be "UNIVERSAL LAW".All of this seems to be as enigmatic as chaung-tzu's butterfly dream. Anyway, the idea of an arrow flying through the air,OR hanging motionless as the w...

One more thought on the above discussion. After giving it some thought,i seem to think that this stillness/movement(MOUNTAIN/RIVER)idea is a little mis-leading.In fact, taken literaly, the entire concept becomes a misnomer.Universal law states that a body in motion cannot simultaneouly remain at rest.&...

Thanks for the input on the "flowing river"inquiry. I especialy like the concept of dingdian. To me the laws of physical science correlate so well to the study of taiji quan. In fact,i've found that within the study of taiji (with or without quan)lie the nurturings to learn or appreciate ev...

Thanks jerry, this explanation seems to make perfect sense."Seems to pause but does not REALLY pause" leaves me to surmise that even though there is a short physical break ,the INTENT continues to carry the motion which would enable the chi to flow uninterupted. Thanks again for your help. jp

flowing like a river?

I have not as yet had the privilege to recieve direct instruction from either yang jen duo or yang jun. However, after recently viewing a video of yang jun performing the entire long form,i noticed that he seems to pause momentarily between the completion of one posture and the beginning of the next....

Hi, upon looking at your post on the 49 movement form, the first thing that came to mind was that this new form cannot be replacing the 42 movement form since that form is a combination of all the major TCC styles, similar to the older 48 combination form. However, the newer 49 mov. form which is purel...

becoming certified

i was wondering, how does one become certified to teach yang style taiji quan? Must a teaching course be completed,a diploma obtained, permission from a exsisting school or master, etc.? Has anyone thought about this? Any helpful answer would be appreciated.
