Greetings!

As they say in Hong Kong:

Gung Hay Fat Choy!

I wish you all the best of fortune in promoting traditional Tai Kik Kune (Taijiquan) in the upcoming year of the monkey.

In Wu style T'ai Chi Ch'uan (directly descended from the Yang style) there is a primary emphasis on throws, footsweeps, jumping, falling, tumbling and other ground work in the early martial training. As well - striking, trapping and locking the opponent trying to close or grapple with us as a precur...

Keep practicing! Don't give up. Keep trying to do what your teacher says, if he sees you trying eventually he should help you with a physical demonstration of how to relax. If he doesn't see an effort, well... We all come from different stress levels, but with this world as messed up as it is we ALL...

Greetings All, An interesting topic. I've been taught that we want to train to be able to do anything on our non-dominant side that we can do with our dominant side. Our forms are fairly well balanced that way, but at least in my style there are a few postures in the hand form that do things on one ...

Agreed. I've nothing against the guy, I think his books are nicely done, well designed and easy to read. I'd known about his Wu style book for some time now, and I found it interesting that there are some etiquette issues in his relationship with the Yang family as well. I've never met him, or seen ...

Doing drugs recreationally or drinking to get drunk are both incredibly bad for one's health, from a Traditional Chinese Medicine point of view. Alchohol is pure poison, and depletes the ch'i almost instantly upon ingestion. The more you drink, the more you deplete. Hangovers happen for a reason. Sm...

Oh don't worry, we don't tell them that! LOL! We just say, "this is the way it's always been done in our schools" and leave it at that. We tell our instructors, or people who have gotten through it and may ask, that it is a filter, but not the newbies. Too much information! If they ask aga...

As well, the "Secrets of Wu style" that Yang Jwing-ming has translated and published have been in the public domain since the 1930s when Wu Kung-tsao published his book "Wu Chia T'ai Chi Ch'uan" otherwise known as "The Gold Book." YJM's book was published without permis...

Wu Chien-ch'uan was good friends with the Yang brothers, Yang Shao-hou and Yang Ch'eng-fu. In particular, he was asked to train with Yang Ch'eng-fu as YCF only started seriously training under his older brother after his father's death. Later, in Hsu Yu-sheng's school they all taught the public unde...

In my school the form is a filter for undesirables. There just aren't many 'Joe Ninjas' or other thugs who are going to spend the 6 odd months necessary to learn a long, complicated and (to them) abstract set of motions. IME, they want to learn the martial "good stuff" right away that PH m...

Cheers! Yes, spear/sword is there in my list above. There are very few barehand techniques against sabres and swords, and if you do try them you'll have to be very, very good. They mostly involve running like hell or otherwise maneuvering out of harm's way or picking up something else as a shield in...

There is in Wu style, anyway. Two person spear/spear, sabre/sabre, sword/sword, spear/sabre, spear/sword, sabre/sword, as well as drills for the things you would have to do to counter these weapons bare-handed (there isn't a lot that you can do, in some cases). We call them fencing drills in English...

Psalchemist, Don't mention it. Actually, I am a full time TCC teacher, a disciple of Sifu (Eddie) Wu Kwong-yu. This message board is run well, so I don't mind coming here and thinking out loud. Louis and Jerry and the others are pretty much always competent and interesting. You have to figure that t...
