wushuer, That is exactly what I meant. Hummingbirds are not supposed to fly based on present aerodynamics but obviously they do. Theories abound but the exact actions are difficulkt to duplicate though efforts are on to find out why. Same with push hands as there is lots of talk and few can exhibit ...

psalmqimico, I love tradition but there is a point where (for me) a thing doesn't sound right and I do tend to pay lip service (while doing the exact opposite in personal time). Many teachers state that benefits can be achieved in more time than allocated, and this stymies the one(s) who may grasp a...

Taijiquan research
I came across this study involving the Beijing 24 form being used as "yangshengong" (spirit nourishing exercise). It was conducted by a Japanese university (Osaka);

wushuer et al, what i ave seen is that mind/heart may be synonomous while at the same time being different due to its present separation in the english language and orientation. What you described as I undertandt it is that one has to learn/synchronize/internalize the physical/external (obviously th...

wushuer, If you survey what is being taught, application are rarely done. Just form and push hands and this is even limited. Most people rarely ask questions and since they are into health, they appear to be satisfied. Nothing should be wrong with their level of satisfaction. I do not believe that o...

wushuer, Your meaning was what I was referring to. Use in real life confrontations (using the skill of avoidance instead of physical corrective methods) along with its literal practice meanings. Example; you ar ehaving a verbal match and the others keeps insisting and you both keep going back and fo...

The poetic Repulse Monkey is different from the application. Seizing the raised leg -empty and dislodging the full (leg holding posture) is at odds with the poetic description, and I have found this to be deceptive for the beginner/intermediate practitioner. For the health practitioner this may be g...

Does anyone utilize tui shou/rolling hands aka push hands?
I statrted with rolling hands about 25 years ago while stationed in the Far East (Philippines, S. Korea, Taiwan) but the type of trianing was different as I returned to USA. It was called "rolling hands" then and it was better at trapping, parrying, etc and /or movinng away and moving the ...

psalm, greetings. where do I start? 1. Zhanzhuang aka post standing, post staking, wiji zhuang, wujizhanzhuang all convey the same meaning. It basically is holding static postures (without external movemnt) for periods of time. It is an important training that many neglect today especially in Yang s...

Mind intention is USELESS. It is a good byproduct of taijiquan practice but never the goal. 1. Do zhanzhuang 2. Do individual posture training 3. DO form 4. Do weapons practice 5. Have fun Mind only controls movement when you have accumulated the gong of practice, meaning you have the duration and f...
