Michael, Learning an internal art like Tai Chi is a painfully long journey! One needs to be honest with each other. Otherwise, he won't be able to reach for the top of that “Mount Internals”. It means that he would think himself as a lifetime student, even though he may have many students or already...

Greeting O! It doesn't matter what style of Tai Chi you would choose as long as it is a real internal art (Please refer to my posts on how to pick Tai Chi instructor). Chen style has lower stances plus fast and slow movement which should help some beginners to understand the Tai Chi philosophy and i...

Greeting Chris! Asking questions without touching your prospective instructor would be same as looking at the apple without knowing what its taste would be! A novice student could be fooled by just watching the demo but would be able to judge anyone by touches or contacts. Simply, you need to go bac...

Greetings! Having a common sense is more important than knowing about the lineage! Technically everyone belong to some kind of lineage(s) directly or indirectly, but some seem emphasize on this issue more. Does so-call famous burger (i.e. Macdonald¡¦s) taste better than those of other restaurants¡¦?...

Please see the family tree: Chen---Yang---Wu | | ---Wu(Hao)---Sun Only difference is that some peoples try to patent their styles by using their last names after Tai Chi rooted in the Chinese villages and cities. Please analyze them completely. Tai Chi is an internal art and it doesn't matter how th...

The truth is that Tai Chi is one of the best self-defense systems on earth for the old and the young or both male and female! The problem is that 95% of peoples don't see it or won't be able to master it!

Greetings! This is my honest opinion: only 5% of all Tai Chi practitioners including those in China, may know how to defend themselves with the real Tai Chi skills (I mean challenging any other styles, hard and soft, not their own group of students or training partners). What about rest of 95%(+/-)?...

Hi Wushunut! This is a common problem in Taiji circles! Lots of talks in theory but no real skills in self defence! If a Taiji instructor cannot show you the real Taiji stuff at the first time, he or she won't be able to teach you at all. The old saying is "The hairless man won't be able to sho...

Greetings all! 'He1' sounds 'Her' with a flat tone. The tip of tongue should curve up and touch the hard palette softly. Regarding Tai Chi's breathing (Hu1 & Xi1), one should let the body breathing on its own course. Only time one would focus on 'Hen'/'Ha' while doing 'Fajin'. Have a good day! WU

Good day, everyone! This is a very interesting forum and it's my first time to join in your discussions on the 'Sound of Tai Chi'. Shaolin martial artists have been using 'Six Sounds' for their training for centuries. So do Daoist priests. Master Chen Chang Qing taught his students how to do their '...
