Hi all, Thanks for the advice. had been looking at the Paul Chen swords models (models 2008 and 2009) and they were what I was leaning toward after having followed DPasek's link and reading around. Jerry, I believe they are from Long Quan factory...and don't worry too much about me, I have weapons e...

Sword buying advice

I'm about to buy my first sword and I'd be really grateful for any advice...anything I should/shouldn't be looking for?

He didn't do the jumping parts or the kicks, he onld did part of the form, but when questioned he clearly said that leaps and kicks did feature in it.

And Tian(via the translator) definitely said it was a mix of soft and hard. Also, that it was similar to some other boxing.

Hi mark, It was said that part of the reason Tian had come to the UK was to open up and pass the knowledge on; his son allowed his demonstration of medium frame (which was also a sight to behold) to be filmed, and Tian allowed himself to be framed doing small frame. As to the veracity of all the cla...

Small frame/fast form

I was fortunate to be able to attend a demonstration with Tian Yin Jia this week (son of Tian Zao Lin, who was adopted son of Yang Jian Hou) who together with his son Tian Bing Yuan and his primary Tudi were doing a series of seminars in the UK. The demo included sword, sabre, push hands, the form d...

Wu, >>It sounds like what you're saying is one good defense is a swift, incapacitating offense?<< Yep, in certain cirumstances I absolutely believe that. My old headteacher was a former marine and I remember him telling me that the one piece of advice that stuck with him from his training days was '...

"So this is the idea that it carries over into life - nobody keeps score, but everyone's afraid of losing." Great line. My 2p regarding resistance, for what it's worth, is that I often find that the way of least resistance actually appears to be the most, for want of a better word, aggress...

YCF04, Thankyou for your first post...I just found this thread and your list made me laugh out loud in recognition...coming back from class last night with my head spinning (from trying to work out exactly how I got bounced across the room, which hip to tuck during which posture, the concept of spir...

Audi, you wrote... >>>If the opponent persists in trying to control my wrists, he is at a disadvantage in resisting my rotation and will naturally tense his forearm and elbow muscles. If I sense this, I can then use his reactions to “attack” the center of his upper back through his own arms. Again, ...

Polaris, would it be possible to explain this here - if so, I would love to hear it if you would be willing to tell.

Cheers,

Psalm, Sticky Hands, as practised in Wing Chun, is actually a form of training not too disimilar to Push Hands - although my experiences in SH were very much hard (or external, if you prefer). And I completely agree with Polaris's last post - as a newbie all this talk of internal energy was really j...

Wow, I read that post and had the distinct impression of someone walking over my grave...my real name is Duffy, I also play guitar and have been practising for a relatively short amount of time. Small world! Anyway, back on point, I have seen enough from my instructor to know that Yang Tai Chi is de...
