I also have a question that pertains to the book by Cheng Fu. How come there is no lifting of the arms in the opening posture?

I got the book by Fu Zhongwen a couple of weeks ago and it is a pretty good read so far. I did not read the Tai Chi classics yet, but the form instructions do seem quite detailed.
