I’m interested to hear what other taiji practitioners think about the meaning of conscious movment. How important is it to your practice? Is it something that you strive for, or do you not get what it’s referring to?[/B] Conscious move...

Sansau refers to fighting techniques per se. A block and a punch in Karate can be said as sansau too. It is not a system. Taichi sansaus are found in the form, each and every postures in the form is a sansau too. White Crane Spread Wings, Punch Below Elbow, White Horse Parting all these are sansaus....

I trust Wang XiangZhai statement was from a sincere heart but I cannot say the same of yiquan people today. I guess many people can relate better to yiquan than TCC because the former allows some degree of force to be used when neutralizing. It is closer to human natural tendency to use strength to ...

Hi guys, In layman terms `hua' is an act of dispersing or nullifying. Disperse/ nullify something from becoming united, focuses and strong. E.g. we can `hua' an animosity between two person by explaination and understanding so that the factors that build the animosity feeling can be dispersed and nu...

I have no doubt Wang XiangZhai is a very talented fighter. Even before he invented Yiquan, he has been defeating many famed fighters in Northern China using his Hsing-I kungfu. I always wonder what then prompted him to adopt taiji softness into his Hsing-I and become Yiquan as what is known today if...

Hi mls_72, I agree with you that many yiquan people has the impression of superiority over taiji. Simply puts, yiquan's system is more straight forward and systematic as compared to taiji. Personally, I see people progress faster with yiquan than taiji. For this reason too many taiji people jump boa...

Hi Kal, quote: [Can you speak a little more about concentration? It seems like this is more than just paying attention closely. Does it seem like a kind of solidification of mind energy to you? The root of concentration (just off the top of my head) has to do with density, and compaction through dis...

Hi Kal, To put it very simple, all taiji fighting strategies are based on the skill of tingjin and dongjin (sensitivity). Sensitivity developed from the skill of fangsong (relax, soft, pliable & non-resisting). Fangsong relies on the ability of the mind to concentrate and calm down. To do that, ...

Hi Kal, Intent can be detected by the strength you exert, face expressions, eyes, movements, breathing and many others. In TCC, we train ourselves to become very sung and soft so that our strength is hidden at all times but when we attack, jin is release in a split second to avoid giving-out prewarn...

To me, the problem of whether he/she is from the direct lineage or otherwise is not as important as the quality of TCC he/she possesses. Of course there is also the question of what constitutes `a direct lineage'? Many had a few lessons with masters from direct lineage and then self-proclaim to be t...

You can fight without push hands, no doubt about it. But if you want to fight using taiji principles, PH is important. It trains you to be song, sensitive and react automatically. This gives you advantages in close counter combat. 2 months ago I visited another taiji school run by an older sifu and ...
