Learning Tai Chi from Books and DVD's?

Post by OutofLuckNovice »

Hello, my name is Jerone Williams. I've been interested in learning Tai Chi for a long time now but there aren't any instructors where I live. I've bought a few books and dvds but i'm not sure if they will really help.

I'm interested in the martial Chen style as well as strength, flexibility, and focus. I've been learning from Tiffany Chens' "Tai Chi for Beginners" dvd, and also studied the principles from a few books(like the Tao Te Ching), articles, documemtaries, movies, etc...

I study music and I understand the importance of having a teacher or mentor. Is it possible to learn this on my own?

No.

My advice to you. (though it's hard to know if this helps, not knowing where you live or your circumstances). Find your nearest reputable instructor, and travel there. Even if it's only once a month. Possibly you could explain your circumstances over email and you could agree some one on one training that could tide you over for a lengthy period of time (finances and time permitting).
