Hi
I have a question concerning push hands. I learn't a version which I believe came from the Yang family style. I can only refer to it as earth range as it is extremly close to each other. I was told this is the old method as it creates full and compete use of centre and spiral energy. When leaning this method it really does create mucle ach in the centre then just great power, It works on a vertical plan as opposed to the normal horizontal plan.
Feet are parallel and distance is as close as strucure allows.
I learn,t this from the guy who taught me Song Shanxi Hsing I, He also trained in Chinese wrestling ba gwa and Small circle Yang. he said it was all that was needed to create the centre enegitics for Tai chi.
I was wondering if anyone has heard of this type of old frame push hands before as I certinally haven't and when I asked him he said it was extremally rare. How ever I find the results are the best I have ever found.
Any info really would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Earth range push hands
Hi Wisdom,
What you describe seems similar to something I once saw demonstrated by Don Ethan Miller on a video. If I recall correctly, he called it "Elephant Wrestling."
What I recall is that you stand with your feet parallel, shoulder width apart. Your partner faces you in the same stance a foot or two away. The two of you then proceed to do free style pushing with little ability to "brace" against the opponent's force.
Here is one reference I was able to find through Google: Tai Chi Tui Shou! Volume II
Take care,
Audi
