Shoot tiger with bow

Master Yang,
Where is the striking surface of the left fist in the form "Shoot tiger with bow"? Is it (1) the front surface of the first two knuckles, (2) the back of the knuckles (as in a "backfist" strike), or (3) the bottom of the fist (as in a "hammer" strike)?

The left fist strikes with what we call the 'face' of the fist, which is the front of the clasped fist.
