Re: Yang Taiji Practitioner loses bad to Boxer/MMA challenge
Latest: A interview with Xu Xiaodong with translation: It helps to clear up a lot of the misinformation that's been going around. Apparently his social media has been censored by the Chinese government for this interview and that his school is being closed down. https://www.facebook.com/wong.yuenmin...

Re: Yang Taiji Practitioner loses bad to Boxer/MMA challenge
ChiDragon, I agree with you. As a fighter, Tai chi does have pugilism (Chuan) and it is lost and nearly forgotten. That is why few schools teach Da shou "striking hands". It is as if everyone has their heads in the sand with the fist and kick techniques in Tai chi and only want to see stic...

Re: Yang Taiji Practitioner loses bad to Boxer/MMA challenge
That was a much better fight chidragon. Update: Just released by the Chinese Wushu Association in response to Xu. Translation: Chinese Wushu Association sends this note to all provincial, local/municipal associations, saying such fights are against Martial Virtue, against the law, and hence firmly o...

Yang Taiji Practitioner loses bad to Boxer/MMA challenger
If you have not seen this on other martial arts forums, it has gone viral all over Facebook Martial arts forums especially in regards to Tai chi. https://youtu.be/l0p9c56pkbs Xu Xiaodong issued a challenge to "fake" Chinese martial artists as well as Tai Chi masters as ineffective martial ...

Jin- starts in the feet YZD
Saw this online thought I'd share it. One of my instructors mentioned 'grabbing the ground with toes', which for me creates a yin yang approach to the legs. Rather than have the rear leg push, the lead/front leg assists and guides the knee in proper placement so both feet and legs are working togeth...

Wuji Gong training
Saw this on a forum on facebook, but thought it was very interesting in that the teacher Cai Songfeng discussed that Yang Jianhou instructed Yang Chenfu that the only way he would surpass his peers was by training diligently in the wuji qigong.

Re: Learn the Tai Chi walk.
I agree. Learn the tai chi walk! It is a very under appreciated training. My first Chinese teacher made us do walking forward , backward, and sideways every class as part of 'basics" or Jibengong. after that then we added hands like Part horse man, brush, knee, repulse monkey and cloud hands. L...

Re: 103 Long form with Yang Jun in China
my response is there: I have noticed that are few pointers, in the video, are worth mentioning: 1. His single whip, the right hand was not bent at 8:37, 14:48 and 19:44. Do you mean like in other forms like 24 or 37 Short form? The Yang family way is straight and slightly up as if a ball could roll ...

Re: 103 Long form with Yang Jun in China
I can see your point. Which reminds me of " harmonize the external with the internal. My point is taijiquan and qigong is acupuncture without the needles.

103 Long form with Yang Jun in China
This is a really nice video on Youtube that I am going to share. It is great in two very important aspects: 1. It has what sounds like Yang Zhendou calling out the names in Chinese. 2. the form is performed slow at a pace of about 26-28 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40k4Z0OJ-bI What does ...

Re: Where is the energy in the body come from?
I like the western science approach of ATP. the Chinese medicine theory is pretty accurate as well: we get Qi from parents (yuan qi) and post-natal were get about 70% from food (Gu qi) and more from oxygen (kong qi) those combine and make zheng qi (true/upright qi). the nourishment in the channels i...

I think I will have to go with the shoulder width stance to get that roundness in the crotch or dang(襠) . I think i was more comfortable with hips width gong bu.

Re: How do I fight with internal arts?
how do you fight with IMA? the answer is simple. Do what fighters do: 1. build up stamina and endurance: cardio 2. Train hard, train smart, train regularly, dont make excuses for yourself. 3. spar with people outside your school (get out of your comfort zone.) 4. Train a few of the Yang techniques 1...
